Makeovers & Photography
You've all seen the commercials, or walked past the store is the wall where they will take glamorous pictures of you after slapping some make-up on and hand you the bill.
Well, while I share little pieces of me I will have you know I love make up. Some would call me a make up junky. I have a full size tool box in my bedroom filled with make-up and beauty products.
I must have every color of the rainbow of eye shadows. It doesn't matter how much the make up cost. I've had both very expensive and very cheap eye shadows. It's all in how you prep your face.
I've suffered with self esteem issues every since elementary school. I was heavier than most. I was born with this bone disorder where my hips (ball joint and socket) developed at a different rate. By the time I was in 3rd grade I had to have both my hips operated on and had pins put into place. That left me in a wheel chair for 2 months and crutches for another 3 months. Needless to say I put on a lot of weight. I was teased and bullied daily.
My Aunt and Grandmother were into Mary Kay make-up. I had my 1st Mary Kay make over at age 11. I fell in love! Make-up changed the way I felt about myself, as it made me look different. I didn't wear the blue eye shadow like all young girls do. I was taught how to use colors that were light yet brought out my features. Enhanced my looks, not cover them up.
In the 80's it just seemed like make-up and young ladies went hand and hand. Today is quite different!. Not sure if the 90's "grunge" and the "go natural" effected how people view make-up or today's "lazy" as "all my free time is spent on facebook" attitude has changed the ways of make-up use.
I'm not saying everyone who doesn't wear make-up fall into them categories. The vast majority of non make-up wearers don't know how to apply it. I understand there's a percent that just don't like it.
So... back on topic here. Make-overs can change a way a person feels. I enjoy taking a person who doesn't usually wear make-up and is always in the natural looking stage and transform them into how I would envision them with make-up. When I see a blank canvas (face) I can see their unique features that most would love to have. Defined check bones, plump lips, radiant eyes, I could go on and on. Bringing the features out with the use of color is an art form all on its own.
I never let people see a mirror till I'm done. That is the most rewarding moment for me. . I've even made a transsexual cry, and sob that they never felt so beautiful. That was priceless.
This young lady is a friend of my daughters. This was the first time anyone had spent a great amount of time on her. I washed her hair, curled it, and applied make-up. With pics it was a 5 hours event. I watched her self confidence grow right in front of me. She was amazed at her appearance. She always wanted curly hair. I believe she went 3 days without getting her hair wet to maintain that look.
I have a huge closest with costumes and she loved that wedding dress, so we did a "wedding shoot". That was over a year ago and she still uses that pic as her profile pic.
